Dr. Hasna Begum, Ph.D. (Monash) was a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Dhaka. After retirement she accepted the nomination by the University Grants Commission for the honorable Rokeya Chair for two years from 2 September 2010 to 1 September 2012. Professor Begum is the author of a number of books on philosophy published by the University of Dhaka, Bangla Academy, and by Sterling Publishers in New Delhi. Her translation of a few classics of ethics into Bengali has been published by Bangla Academy. She has many articles published in national and international journals on philosophy, ethics, bioethics, social studies, women studies, etc. She has two volumes of poetry and one philosophical fiction on feminism in Bengali published in Dhaka. Recently, her first novel Madhaveer Katha has been published. She currently resides in Dhaka.
Hasna Begum was a board member of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB) from 1997 to 2005. She is also an honorary member of the editorial boards of Bioethics (Blackwell Publishers, U.K. and U.S.A.) and the EUBIOS Journal of Asian Bioethics and International Bioethics (New Zealand).
