Selina Hayat Ivy

The former Narayanganj municipality chairman is running for the mayor's office of the newly established Narayanganj City Corporation, having refused to pull out from the race when Awami League announced its tacit backing for her party rival Shamim Osman.

Selina Hayat Ivy, who will compete with Pen and Inkpot symbol, is a medical graduate, which makes her one of the two most educated mayor candidates.

Ivy is a member of one the most influential families in Narayanganj. Her father Ali Ahmed Chunka was also a chairman of the Narayanganj municipality.

Ivy, the vice president of Awami League's Narayanganj City unit, claims she was a successful municipality head. She is perceived to not have any involvement in terrorism or in corruption, but critics say she could not succeed in making the city as modern.

She is also the convenor of the pro-Awami League doctors' front Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad's (Sachip) Narayanganj unit.

Practicing medicine, Ivy earns Tk 1,647,000 yearly. Her moveable assets include Tk 1 million and ornaments worth Tk 30,000. She has the possession of one-eighth of a jointly owned 112 decimal land

Elder daughter of Chunka, Ivy immigrated to New Zealand along with her husband in 1995. But she returned home during the regime of BNP-led four-party alliance and took part in the municipality election. Ivy defeated the then government-backed candidate by a huge margin and became the first lady mayor of the Narayanganj municipality.

Ivy, 45, is the mother of two daughters. Her husband Kazi Ahsan Hayat, is a computer programmer working in New Zealand.

Ivy does not have any criminal cases against her.
